The finalists for the 2013-14 year Conares Golf Society League were finally settled after a very tense and closely fought set of semi-final matches which followed a seven month series of qualifying matches.
Four-time finalists Massin Golf Society were keen to once again grace the final with their presence, but after a poor start against the well-known UAE KEGS society they looked as though it wasn’t going to be their year.
But the society rallied at the half way stage and turned both games around, Abdul Latif and Bill Wong in the end running out comfortable 4/3 winners, while a steady par from Adi Husaini on the 17th helped him and partner Mohammad Firdaus to a 2/1 victory over their counterparts. Firdaus later commented how the experience from the previous four Golf Society Leagues enabling his team to stay calm and produce some winning golf.
In the other semi-final both Sport2Business and the Wosetyn Boere Hackers had come through tightly fought playoffs during their previous rounds showing they both had the stamina and fight to make it to the final.
However, a slightly weakened Woestyn Boere Hackers team due to injury just couldn’t muster up the quality of golf shown in previous rounds with both teams falling behind early on. The Sport2Busines duo of Randall Mohammad and Captain Russell Yeomans ousted Juan Prinsloo and Douglas Hayes with ease. Dannie Skinner and Dirk Bruwer fought hard for the Woestyn Boere Hackers as they knew they needed a second match win to force a playoff, however the stand out Sport2Business golfer Fathi Al Busaidy really turned on the style.
