Government and non-government organisations and companies are taking part in the week-long fair which is also being held in Al Ruwias where 16 pavilions have been set up.

The opening drew a large crowd of job aspirants and public who visited the pavilions to acquaint themselves with the job opportunities and services provided by the bodies operating in the region.

The fair is being held in the region for the first time with the aim of bringing together job-seekers from the area and employers, Al Mazruwai said.

It would be held every year in the region and would include a number of new features in the next edition.

The Higher Colleges of Technology was chosen as the venue to give an opportunity to the undergraduates and other Emirati job-seekers to familiarise themselves with the employment opportunities in different departments and firms and also to build a database on the labour market needs and jobs, he added.

Job aspirants could interact and set up channels of communication with a large number of prominent employers in the region, he added.

The fair is being held in Madinat Zayed and Al Ruwais for the convenience of people.

Director of Higher Colleges of Technology in Al Gharbia Phil Kwirk said holding the fair at the Higher Colleges of Technology would have positive effects on the students and their professional choices as they could get direct information from the employers on the job requirements in the future.

Participating firms also underlined the importance of the fair in aiding the labour market in the region.

For instance, Dubai Islamic Bank is offering 13 positions, including eight for women, at its new branch, Bassam Amir, employment executive at the Human Resources department of the bank, said.

Officials at the bank’s pavilion are briefing the visitors about the nature of the jobs, and the rules and work system of the bank, he added.
