Syria calls for deployment of int’l monitors

(AP) / 10 April 2012

MOSCOW — Syria’s foreign minister says the government has begun withdrawing their forces from some Syrian cities.

Walid Muallemalso also said that the cease-fire must start simultanously with the deployment of the international observer mission.

Russia on Tuesday called on the opposition as well as countries that “influence them” to use their powers to bring about the cease-fire.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says after the meeting with Muallemalso that Syria’s government “could have been more active and decisive” in implementing the peace plan.
