Pak boy on visit goes missing in Dubai

Asma Ali Zain and
Amira Agarib / 24 May 2012

A 17-year-old Pakistani boy on a visit to Dubai has been missing for the past two days. Ammar Atiuddin along with his mother came to Dubai on April 27 for a month to visit his father who owns a jewellery shop in Deira.

According to his worried father, Atiuddin Moinudeen, Ammar had just finished breakfast on Monday — the day he went missing — and told his mother he would be back soon. “He just walked out of my office located on the first floor of Deira Gold Souq and did not return the entire day,” said Moinudeen.

“I have been to the police, hospitals, malls and every possible place that I can think of, but there is no clue at all,” said Moinudeen, who has been based in Dubai for the past 17 years.

Ammar has no friends or relatives he could be with since he does not visit Dubai very often, said his father. He is not carrying any mobile phone as well. “He did not receive any call nor did he have any fight with anyone before he left. I, too, have no enmity with anyone.”

Ammar is Moinudeen’s fourth son. He has five other brothers and one sister, all currently residing in Karachi.

“At 5am on Wednesday, I received a blank call from a du number but it was unreachable later on,” said the father.

Ammar’s mother has fallen sick worrying for her missing son. Both parents have appealed to the public to alert them in case anyone comes to know of Ammar’s whereabouts.

A police complaint has also been filed at the Naif police station. Major Khadem bin Saroor, Director of the police station, confirmed that a missing person’s report had been filed.

“We have been informed about the blank call and we are still investigating,” he said.

A photograph and other physical details of Ammar have also been posted on a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/topchoicediamond.jewellery.
