The ‘Family Village for Orphans’ project was launched on Friday as the first initiative in the holy month of Ramadan by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
A ceremony was held at the Emirates Towers in presence of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
The charity project was among thousands of proposals Shaikh Mohammed had received in response to his invitation to the public to submit what they think would be the best initiatives that could be put forward and adopted during the holy month of Ramadan.
Shaikh Mohammed directed Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) to start implementing the project immediately. He also ordered that two pieces of land be allotted to the project on which one the project will be built while the other is commercial to support the continuity of the project.
The Family Village for Orphans aims to create a balanced and stable family atmosphere for the orphaned children who do not have the opportunity to get family care, which is regarded as one of the basic factors for human growth.
Emphasising the importance of giving more attention to orphans, Shaikh Mohammed said: “Such religious occasions make us closer to orphans, the closet to my heart, who are the most underprivileged and the most needful for care in any community. These occasions make us, as community and government, show all the love and sympathy with orphans whose existence among us promotes serenity.”
Also present at the launching ceremony were Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Director of Dubai Ruler’s Office Lt-Gen. Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan and other senior officials.
