‘Do Good to Planet Earth’

9 May 2012

Campaign focuses on home appliances including washing machines, air-conditioners and light bulbs.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is once again spreading awareness among the residents of Dubai with a new initiative aimed at shedding light on the importance of electricity and water conservation, especially by making proper and informed decisions when buying home appliances and devices. The Home Appliances Campaign, launched in May, is in continuation of DEWA’s sustainability and community engagement initiatives aimed at Dubai’s residents, under the banner, ‘Do Good to Planet Earth.’

DEWA has decided to take small but imperative steps to ensure that residents in and around Dubai are conscious of how much energy they are consuming at their homes. Through the Home Appliances Campaign, DEWA aims to educate them on how to choose the most energy and water-efficient home appliances and integrate their usage into their daily lives in a practical and non-obtrusive manner.

“Conserving water and electricity is in line with long term national initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build a green economy in the UAE under the slogan ‘A green economy for sustainable development and the ongoing implementation of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030’. We are eager here at DEWA to continuously honour this vision, by finding innovative ways to raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of energy conservation. We are looking forward to the launch of the Home Appliances Campaign and anticipating a successful return to our environment,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

What the audiences need to know here is that efficient technologies help reduce carbon emission levels; mitigate the threat of global warming and climate change, and facilitate for the upkeep of the living environment by securing precious natural resources for generations to come.

The campaign will focus on home appliances including washing machines, air-conditioners and light bulbs, amongst others.

“May 6 will mark the launch of a widespread awareness-raising and conservation drive aimed at the public of Dubai. Under the heading ‘Do Good to Planet Earth,’ DEWA will encourage residents to protect the environment by becoming aware of the amount of water and electricity consumed at home, and getting to know that it is possible to decrease energy consumption by simply choosing the right home appliances,” said Amal Koshak, Senior Manager of Marketing Communication at DEWA.

DEWA has chosen to reach out to its audience through different communication channels by disseminating the ‘Do Good to Planet Earth’ message. This latest socially responsible offering from DEWA will show the public the practical benefits of reducing water and electricity consumption within the wider realm of protecting their environment.

As a lateral proposition, ‘reducing water and electricity consumption indeed does contribute to preserving our resources, but can also invariably save on utility bills as well,’ is one of the many messages DEWA hopes to extend to its public and customers. ‘Managing consumption responsibly is convenient and is a learning experience that can be fun,’ is another one.

DEWA will also be updating both its Twitter and Facebook pages to ensure that interaction with the audience is purposeful and continuous. A series of broadcast rollouts will be the forefront of the ‘Do Good to Planet Earth’ campaign in order to engage its audience to learn facts and fun day-to-day tips, which can help reduce water and electricity consumption at home. The site will provide for simple and smart guidelines as to how one can rationally consume electricity and water, and reduce their wastage levels.

DEWA is also partnering with a list of brands that have been pioneers in the production of energy saving appliances. This will give Dubai customers an understanding of what the market has to offer in terms of the latest up-to-date energy conserving products, and make them realize that these products are within their reach.

It is always the right time to ‘Do Good to Planet Earth’ and DEWA is present to honor this statement by relentlessly pushing forward the most practical ways to work towards a better tomorrow.
