In what was a whirlwind promotional tour of Dubai for his upcoming production debut Vicky Donor, Bollywood star John Abraham made time to visit the Khaleej Times office on Friday along with his lead actor, TV star Ayushmann Khurana.
Arriving with the requisite entourage and swarm of admirers, the producer and actor revealed more about his decision to step behind the camera and the film, opening next Thursday.
“I felt getting into production was a natural progression for me,” John stated.
“Back home, most actors get into this field after only 20 years, but I felt I wanted to do it sooner rather than later and this was the perfect project.”
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Vicky Donor deals with the slightly risqué topic of artificial insemination and sperm donation, wrapped up in a, as Ayushmann put it, ‘typical rom-com storyline’.
“Deep down it’s a love story, but if it gets people talking about the social consequences of the topic, then I’m happy,” the former MTV VJ said.
Heading on to a charitable meeting with special needs children at Kobe Sizzlers restaurant in Karama and a party at Pulse Nightclub, the Movenpick Oud Metha later that evening, John, whose father is from Kerala, left with a few thoughts on the festival of Vishu (Malayalam New Year) being celebrated today.
“My dad’s a very proud Malayali and I’m very happy to be one. Kerela food is my favourite breakfast, so whichever festival has
the best food, I’m there! I want
to wish everybody a very happy Vishu.”
