Bhupathi and Bopanna in doubles final Alex Leach / 3 March 2012 DUBAI - Indian duo Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna have made it through to the men’s doubles final of the DDF Tennis Championships on Saturday. Fourth-ranked Bhupathi and Bopanna beat unseeded Austrians Julian Knowle and Alexander Peya over two tie-break sets 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7) and will now meet Poland’s Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski. Fyrstenberg and Matkowski overcame Israelis Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 10-4 in a Champions tie-break after the first two sets were shared, with the first going 6-4 to Fyrstenberg and Matkowski and the subsequent second 6-3 to Erlich and Ram. Earlier, Peya and Bhupathi exchanged service breaks to reach 6-6, where Bhupathi & Bopanna won the first five points in a row and eventually closed it out at 7-2. There were to be no service breaks in the second set though, leading to another tense tie-break that Bhupathi & Bopanna claimed 9-7 after saving two set points. |
