English triathlete Stimpson wins first gold of Glasgow Games
England’s Jodie Stimpson won the opening gold of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday on a day when the multi-sport event was hit by the withdrawal of athletics legend Mo Farah.

The Commonwealth Games, the biggest multi-sport event to take place in Scotland, got under way in Glasgow on Wednesday. The event, which will feature 4,500 athletes from 71 nations, was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II. Malaysian athletes and officials at the Commonwealth Games held a minute's silence at their flag-raising and wore black armbands in memory of the victims of the Malaysia Airlines crash over Ukraine that killed 298 people.
